The prop firm consistency rule, explained (with a calculator)
A consistency rule says your best single day can be at most a set percentage of your profit. If one day is too big, the payout is blocked (not the account) until more profit on other days brings that share down.

The formula
Best day ÷ profit ≤ limit. Turned around, the profit you need is best day ÷ limit. Example with a 40% limit: if your best day is $1,000, you need at least $1,000 ÷ 0.40 = $2,500 of profit in the measured window before you can request.

Details that change the result
- Strictly below vs at most. Apex requires the best day to be below 50%: exactly 50% fails. Most others allow "at or below" the limit.
- Per cycle vs perpetual. Most rules look only at profit since your last approved payout and reset after each payout. FundedNext Direct uses a "perpetual" rule: your best day ever counts against all profit.
- Progressive limits. Tradeify Lightning uses 20% / 25% / 30% for payouts 1 / 2 / 3+.
- Net profit. Losing days reduce your profit, which makes the same best day a larger share.

Frequently asked questions
How is the prop firm consistency rule calculated?
Divide your largest single-day profit by your total profit in the measured window (usually since your last payout). If the result is above the firm's limit, keep trading until it drops. The profit you need is your best day divided by the limit.
Does failing the consistency rule blow up my account?
At the firms covered here, failing the payout consistency rule blocks the payout request; it does not breach the account. You can keep trading until the ratio meets the limit.
What is the Apex consistency rule for payouts?
For current Apex Performance Accounts, the best day must be below 50% of the profit since the last approved payout. Exactly 50% does not pass.
